Dexter's Dance (Grade 0.5)

Dexter's Dance was written in 2024 and is a beginner band work (Level 0.5) using just the first five notes. It is a fun work which allows young students to perform confidently with unison lines and rhythms across the band. Each section features throughout the work which also includes an alternative drum kit part for extending percussionist.

Tallow Woods (Grade 2.5)

Tallow Woods takes inspiration from the serene beauty of a farm in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast hinterland also named Tallow Woods. The work begins with an evocative bird call heard by the composer at sunrise, capturing the essence of a peaceful sunrise on the farm—a moment of reflection and connection. As the work unfolds, the listener is transported to the heart of Tallow Woods, sharing in the composer’s personal experience of spending time with close friends in this idyllic setting.

The second section serves as a musical portrayal of the sun’s rays breaking over the forested hills, symbolizing the dawning of a new day. Bold and triumphant, the music celebrates the majesty of nature and the joy of shared moments with friends. Tallow Woods is a musical memory of a farm, a sunrise, and the enduring bonds of friendship.

The Warriors of Crimson Cove (Grade 4)

The Warriors of Crimson Cove is an exhilarating wind band composition that takes its inspiration from the harrowing events of a fictional battle set amidst the rugged cliffs and tumultuous waters of Crimson Cove.

The composition unfolds in three distinct sections, each portraying different facets of the battle and its aftermath. The opening depicts the tension and anticipation as the warriors prepare for the impending battle. As the battle ensues, the music intensifies, reaching a climax of ferocious energy and relentless combat. Amidst the cacophony, a poignant death section emerges, marked by mournful melodies and haunting harmonies. A proud and noble passage then propels the warriors forward as they honour legacy of the fallen and continue on with their journey. The final section of the piece transitions into a triumphant flourish as the warriors advance and win the battle of Crimson Cove.
